Suvarna Mahotsava 2018
Part-A (New) Plan of Action: Plan of action chalked out by the IQAC in the beginning of the year to-wards Quality enhancement and the outcome by the end of the year. Sree Kongadiyappa College, Dodballapur was started in the year 1973 by LOKA SEVA NIRATHA D. KONGADIYAPPA MEMORIAL EDUCATION SOCIETY® DODBALLAPUR which had already begun the Pre University section. The intention of the Society was to provide higher education to rural students and the students of the town who had other wise no other option but to go to Bangalore after completing the Pre University course. The College has been functioning for the past 30 years and has to a large extent realized the main goal of providing good quality, affordable higher education to students from poor and educationally backward communities which form the bulk of the population of the taluk. The College was started in a traditional manner with introduction the usual courses B.A, B.Sc and B.Com. In the 1990s Computer Science, Optional English and Journalism were introduced as new core subjects. In the year 2004 the Post Graduate programme in Mathematics was started. Subsequently many other UG and PG Programms are being thought of as a part of the College’s expansion programme. Chiefly in mind are Courses like B.B.M, M.Com and MBA.
As per the suggestion of NAAC Peer Committee the focus of attention during the year 2004-05 will be on improving the infrastructure facilities keeping pace with the rise in admissions and the need for new courses in tune with the present day requirement. It is proposed to add few more rooms, provide better facilities for the women students and up gradation of Computer Laboratory. Computerization of the Library and the Office is on the anvil. There is also the proposal to add new furniture to the existing lot. In order to give better exposure to our students to the job market local entrepreneur will be invited to brief the students about job opportunities both in Dodballaur and in Bangalore and also to hold campus interviews.
Goals and Objectives: •Providing better infrastructure support •Providing better exposure to the students through various programmes •Computer literacy for students, teachers and non-teachers •Arranging campus interviews for job placements •Ensuring the continuation of all the healthy practices
Part-B Activities reflecting the goals and objectives of the institution: Providing better infrastructure support It is realized that to impart effective education to the students at the under graduate level, providing infrastructure support is an imperative. We have also realized the need to provide facilities of good standard, be it built up accommodation or furniture or other things, to match with other educational institutions, mainly in the unaided sector. Our institution being situated in a rural area, obviously finance will be a big constraint. If we start collecting heavy fees from the students (which may not be possible considering the financial background of students), our basic mission will be defeated. But at the same time the need for additional financial resource cannot be underestimated. In the light of this conflicting interest, we have decided to strike a balance and take up medium term projects to improve the facilities available to the students. As a humble beginning our Management which is known for it’s positive approach, has spent about Rs.3.3 lakhs up to Dec.2004 on the new building.
Providing better exposure to students through various programmes Our students who come from remote rural areas, lack communication skills, particularly in the English language. This is a more serious problem among the students of arts faculty. Hence, to give them an opportunity to over come this problem, unique subject combination like Kannada, English and Journalism was introduced and it is well received by students, so much so many have taken up journalism as their profession after completing their masters. Apart from this, students get opportunities to attend lecture programmes both locally and outside.
Arranging campus interviews for job placement Industries in the periphery of the town do entertain the local talents for jobs. However, we are making attempts to lure industries to hold campus interviews in the college on a regular basis.
Ensuring the continuation of all the healthy practices Students who join first year degree course, undergo a different kind of experience in the beginning. This is due to the change in the level of education and to a certain extent they get a kind of academic independence, be it selection of course or adoption of study pattern. All these, pose some initial problems before they acclimatize themselves to the new environment. To make it a smooth process, teachers put special efforts in this regard by holding individual/group counseling. Students sing patriotic songs and some talk about the nation’s challenges on the occasion of national festivals like Republic and Independence Days. They also take part in the centrally organized programmes of the town.
Upgradation of computer labs The college is aiming to provide the students access to Computer operation. It is our endeavor to make everyone computer literate. In this context, a full fledged computer lab with more PCs is being developed.
Computerization of other areas of administration The increasing strength of students has obviously increased the burden on the office staff also, since the vacant posts are not filled since 1986. Hence, to overcome this problem, equipment based services are also being provided to the students. We know the changes have to be introduced gradually. Therefore, we have made a humble beginning in all the areas of administration of the college.
Adding furniture in class rooms It is being taken care of by the Management. We have also requested the Management to provide artificial lighting to supplement natural light in some rooms, where light entry is restricted by the trees in the campus.
Maintenance of cleanliness in college campus We are very glad that the students are aware of the need to maintain cleanliness in college campus. This is evident from their voluntary involvement in the maintenance work. They follow certain healthy practices to avoid accumulation of filth, which has ensured clean and green campus.Innovations in curricular design and transaction. We follow the curriculum as prescribed by the Bangalore University, to which our college is affiliated. However, teaching pattern is a thing to be designed by individual teachers, keeping in view the University requirements.
Examination reforms implemented The change in the question paper pattern is well received by the students. They are also faring better in the exams. Previous question papers are solved in the revision classes and the students are given some idea of scheme of valuation also. This we feel will make the students better equipped to face the exams.
Initiative to-wards FDP Teachers of our college attend maximum number of Refresher / Orientation courses to keep abreast of the latest developments in their fields. To quote a few examples: Dr.B.Narasimha Murthy of Hindi dept - was a resource person in a programme for PU Hindi teachers. Participated in a one day workshop on 21st Aug.04 organised by the dept. of Hindi, Sri Bhagawan Mahaveer Jain College. Participated in two day National Seminar on ‘Aaz ka badalte ayani mein Hindi Bhasha aur Sahithya Pravidhiya’ on 10th and 11th Sept.04. Prof. Ranga Swamy of Sociology department has taken up the task of writing text books with the sole objective of helping BA students in general and rural students in particular. This year he has written books titled a. Kaigarika Samaja Shasthra for III BA annual scheme b. Samaja Shasthrada Moola Tathvagalu for I Sem B.A c. Samaja Shasthrada Moola Tathvagalu for II Sem B.A Community Services The NCC Unit of the college has been doing well on all fronts, be it adventure training, blood donation or tree plantation. The cadets were highly appreciated by the magistrates of local courts, for their efforts to make the court premises greener. Hundreds of saplings of various species were planted under the dynamic leadership of the NCC officer Lt. B.T.Pasha. The NSS Unit also is doing a commendable job in villages in the taluk. They have conducted camps there and were appreciated by the people for their efforts in bringing in them better awareness about health, hygiene, literacy and the like. New recruitments Teachers: Nil Others: 15 Part Time Lecturers
Teaching and non-teaching ratio: 21:15

Unit cost of education Rs 8100/-.
Apr / May 2005 EXAM RESULTS (2004-05)
Increase in the infrastructure facilities Constantly we are under pressure to provide more class rooms with all facilities. This problem of course, is effectively tackled and is evident from the fact that the number of class rooms have gone up from less than ten to more than twenty now. The Management is trying sincerely to increase it more and also to provide separate staff rooms for each department. We are hopeful, that this would become a reality in future, because the Management has already planned to construct third floor in one of the wings of the college.
A B.Com student P.Srikanth was selected to B.U. Yoga team which participated in the All India Inter University Yoga Championship. Another III B.Com student C.Nanda Kumar took part in the athletic event of the State Dasara Sports meet.
Healthy practices of the institution Class representatives are elected to every class Special orientation programme for new entrants Formation of committees, consisting of teachers in specific areas to identify the problems and offer suggestions to solve them All the national festivals are observed both at the college and centrally organized programmes by the Govt. Special lectures by eminent persons are arranged for the benefit of the students.
Part-C Details of the plans of the institution for the next year To speed up the civil construction of additional building planned. To add more computers and other audio / visual teaching aids. To improve the laboratory facilities. To provide larger space for browsing and reference sections in the library.
Part-A (New) Plan of action: Plan of action chalked out by the IQAC in the beginning of the year to-wards Quality enhancement and the outcome by the end of the year.
Part-B Activities reflecting the goals and objectives of the institution: Providing better infrastructure support The need for up gradation and extension of infrastructural facility was felt by the college, in the light of increase in the intake for B.Com. course and starting new courses like B.B.M., M.B.A. and extension of computer lab facilities to all the students of the college. The college Management took initiative to mobilize the required funds for the construction of a separate block for Commerce and Management studies. Since the college has a vast open area, locating the new block was no problem. As per the accounts records, it was found that the following amounts were spent on construction activities:
Providing better exposure to students through various programmes We felt our students who generally come from rural background needed a kind of support, through which they could over come their lacunae in either communication skills or knowledge or awareness. Conduct of inter action sessions with students, lectures, programmes in association with Bangalore University Prasaranga, Kannada Sahithya Parishath, etc., are regular features of our college.
Arranging campus interviews for job placement Since our town is surrounded by many industries in a well setup industrial area/estate, many companies visit our college in search of good students who could be given suitable jobs in their concerns.
Ensuring the continuation of all the healthy practices Special orientation/induction programmes to new entrants in our college is held regularly. To promote various curricular, co-curricular and extra curricular activities, committees are formed. To have good liaison with students, class representatives are appointed. Observing with all seriousness and involvement the National Festivals like Republic Day, Independence Day, etc., has enabled the students develop a sense of responsibility to respect the constitution, their duties as the citizens of the country. The mid-day meal scheme to the students, whose stay in the college is from morning 8-30 to 4-30 in the evening, has successfully raise the level of morale and has motivated the students significantly. The principal and the staff always encourage students to take part in various competitions held out side our town, mainly at university level. Students also have most of the times won many coveted prizes and held high the image of the college.
Upgradation of computer labs Since all the students have to have the knowledge of computer basics, more PCs are added to the computer lab. Access to internet is provided to the students, though to a limited extent.
Computerization of other areas of administration All the non-teaching staff has been given on-the-job computer training. Now almost every office work is done by making use of office software installed in the systems. This has enabled the office to provide any information instantly, stored in computers.
Adding furniture in class rooms The increase in student strength has necessitated more seating arrangement in the class rooms. We have added the required number of new desks and repaired the serviceable desks. Tube lights and fans have been provided in most of the class rooms.
Maintenance of cleanliness in college campus The NSS Unit of the college, sub-staff and municipal workers are ensuring cleanliness in the campus. They are also taking care of plants and trees in the campus.
Providing drinking water facility Realizing the need for additional water connection to the college, the municipal authorities have generously provided drinking water to the students.
Providing better infrastructure for sport An expensive new Basket Ball cement concrete court has been constructed to benefit the students to perform better. We have a full fledged athletic track, which also caters to the need for playing games like cricket and football. Even university zonal cricket tournaments are being conducted on a regular basis.
Innovations in curricular design and transaction Since the college is not an autonomous institution, it does not enjoy the freedom to design its’ own syllabi. However, senior faculty members are on the syllabus framing/revising committees of the university. The college has a history of thirty five years. Obviously most of the teachers have put in over two to three decades of service. So much so these teachers are serving in various capacities at the university level, like BOE Chairmen, members, BOS members, Custodians, Chief Examiners and the like. Inter-disciplinary programmes The college has to follow the curriculum as set by the university, leaving little scope for such programmes. However, wherever it is possible, inter disciplinary approach is being practiced, like between commerce and economics/mathematics/computer science department. Examination reforms implemented. Necessary changes were brought in, to accommodate the change in examination pattern ie., from annual exams to semester scheme exams. Now after facing some teething problem, the whole system is streamlined.
Initiative to-wards FDP Many teachers have presented papers/participated in UGC sponsored programmes, seminars, orientation and refresher courses. Nov / Dec 2005 EXAM RESULTS (2005-06)
Apr / May 2006 EXAM RESULTS (2005-06)
Increase in the infrastructure facilities Keeping in tune with increased number of admissions, the college needs more built up accommodation and furniture. In this direction the management took initiative and took up construction of a separate block consisting of three floors. It spent more than Rs.10.70 lakhs upto 2004 and during 2005-06, the amount spent was around Rs.6.52 lakhs. More PCs were added to office, principal’s chamber and computer lab. Sports facilities were improved to enable conduct inter-collegiate meets within the college campus. More furniture were added like steel almirahs, cushion chairs, tables, desks, plastic molded chairs. Technology up gradation. Audio visual equipment including projectors were purchased. But for want of a full fledged audio visual theatre, they are not being extensively used. With the completion of new block, a separate room could be earmarked for the purpose. However, other equipment like OHP are being used by some of the faculty members.
Support from the parents The college insists that the students should be accompanied by their parents at the time of admission. Since many students coming from remote rural areas, are first line learners, their parents need to be told about their role in getting their wards educated in the right perspective. Not only they endorse such an idea, but also make it a point to visit the college periodically to enquire about the progress of their children. Placement services provided to students In the periphery of the town there is a vast industrial area with small and medium sized industries numbering more than 300. With a view to recognize local talents, the industries conduct campus selection on need based basis. Therefore, quite a good number of B.Com and B.Sc. graduates are able to find jobs in these industries. Apart from this, the faculty members offer counseling informally to the students and help them to decide about their future after graduation.
Healthy practices of the institution Class Representatives are elected to every class. Special Orientation programme for new entrants. Formation of committees, consisting of teachers in specific areas to identify the problems and offer suggestions to solve them. All the national festivals are observed both at the college and centrally organized programmes by the Govt. Conduct of personality development programme in association with NGOs like Sri Satya Sai Trust. Special lectures by eminent persons are arranged for the benefit of the students.
Part-C Details of the plans of the institution for the next year. • It is felt that up gradation of technology, both in the areas of software and hardware goes a long way in rendering effective service to the students. Hence, keeping in mind the financial constraints, efforts will be put to move in this direction. • Improvement of academic standards is another area, which needs focusing. It is our endeavor to strive hard to accomplish this goal. • Infrastructure improvement is another matter, which needs serious attention. The on going project of an annex is given full impetus.
Part-A (New) Plan of action: Plan of action chalked out by the IQAC in the beginning of the year to-wards Quality enhancement and the outcome by the end of the year. The Management attentions and efforts will continue to be focused on the construction of the additional block which is in full swing. It is proposed to invest an amount of 15 lakhs for the purpose. Campus interviews will be continued to be arranged for job placement. The establishment of new industries in the Dodballaur Industrial area will probably enable the Science and Commerce students to get good job opportunities. It is proposed to discard the old computer lab and have them replaced by adding new ones. More furniture is proposed to be ordered with the increase the intake of the College. With the sanction obtained from the University to start M.Com course it is hoped that the Post Graduate Centre of the College will develop further. It is also proposed to start BBM Programme from the academic year 2007-08. this will probably enable the College to become a centre for Management Studies, especially because the desire to start the MBA Programme is likely to bear fruits. As before the Mid Day Meal Programme will be continued.
Part-B Activities reflecting the goals and objectives of the institution: Providing better infrastructure support. Improvement on this front being a continuous matter, the management is putting serious efforts. The construction of additional block is in full swing. As per the records, the amount spent in the current year is to tune of Rs.23.5 lakhs.
Providing better exposure to students through various programmes Students are encouraged to improve their communication skills, by taking part in lecture contests, informal group discussions, both in and outside the college. They get ample opportunities during NSS Camps, where they are given full freedom of organizing and conducting inter-action programmes among themselves and villagers, debates, etc. Even in college programmes, anchoring job is entrusted to them.
Arranging campus interviews for job placement As usual students are directed to appear for job selection interviews conducted by local industries and business houses. Many students secure immediate placements in Bangalore, by making use of their links with their seniors who are already employed.
Ensuring the continuation of all the healthy practices Induction program is held for the sake of new entrants in order to offer them all kinds of guidance and directions. Good liaison with students has become possible from the formation of committees. All the students and staff compulsorily attend all the national festivals. Besides, the NCC unit of the college takes active role in the centrally organized parades conducted by the National Festivals Committee of the Govt. In spite of resource constraints, the mid-day meal scheme is being continued. We are planning to create a corpus fund to take care of the scheme in future also. Students are motivated to take part in various competitions held at both college and university levels. On many occasions, they have won laurels and held high the image of the college.
Upgradation of computer labs Many outdated PCs have been replaced by new versions. This has significantly contributed to efficiency in various uses.
Adding furniture in class rooms Serviceable desks have been repaired and painted. Light fittings and fans are maintained properly to ensure the required amount of lighting and ventilation in class rooms.
Maintenance of cleanliness in college Premises The college management is very keen on cleanliness and hygiene in the college premises. Since almost the entire area of the college is being used for one purpose or the other, there is no area which needs special maintenance. 1. New academic programmes initiated. As per the plans, the college has applied for permission to start a new PG course viz., MBA. The formalities have been worked out and necessary action is being taken in this regard. 2. Innovations in curricular design and transaction. Even though we have no role to play in designing the syllabus, the senior teachers are drafted for this work at the university level. 4. Inter disciplinary programs. Teachers specialized in specific areas teach the students of other departments as part of curriculum. This provides an opportunity to students to have better understanding of the subjects which are new to them.
Initiative to-wards FDP Prof. M.G.Chandrashekaraiah of Kannada department besides taking part in seminars organized by other colleges, himself organized a two day seminar on ‘Vachanabhiruchi Kammata’ in the college during the current year. Nov / Dec 2006 EXAM RESULTS (2006-07)
Apr / May 2007 EXAM RESULTS (2006-07)
Increase in the infrastructure facilities The Management has taken up the construction of the new block on a war footing and significant progress has been achieved. During the current year a total expenditure of Rs.23.5 lakhs is incurred and the Management has planned to increase allotment during the next year.More furniture is being added during the year to better the existing facility. The Management is fully convinced that there is a need for an audio/visual theatre and is committed to provide a big room for the purpose.
Placement services provided to students As in the previous years, HR staff from local industries was invited to visit the college for the purpose of holding campus selection. A few of them did respond and selected some students for appointment.
Healthy practices of the institution Mid day meal scheme continued Appointment of class reps. and formation of committees Observance of National Festivals with usual fervor and pomp Conduct of personality development programme with more than 20 sessions Part-C Details of the plans of the institution for the next year Plan to hold a UGC sponsored seminar during the next academic year Plan to ensure the commencement of PG course in Management. Plan to install equipment to provide soft drinking water to students. To complete the new block at an early date. To continue our efforts to improve further, the performance of students in the exams by holding special/remedial teaching.
Part-A (New) Plan of action: Plan of action chalked out by the IQAC in the beginning of the year to-wards Quality enhancement and the outcome by the end of the year. With the Management deciding to introduce the MBA Programme in a couple of years it is proposed to a build separate Management Block on a one-acre plot as peer the guidelines of All India Council for Technical Education. The Management which has already spend considerable amount proposes to invest around 25 to 30 lakhs of Rupees in order to house the Department, Library and Staff and Rest Rooms. Since this expenditure is likely to be huge there might be some effect on the improvements to be made for other Under Graduate Departments. However, the task of computerizing the Library and the College Office will continue to receive attention. The new Librarian has been entrusted with task of expediting the process of cataloguing and Bar Coding after which the Soft Ware required for the purpose is installed. Computer Labs also are to be upgraded and Mid Day Meal Scheme would be implemented. Further improvement of toilet and drinking water facilities are to be looked into. Other programmes like campus interviews and NCC abd NSS activities (including Blood Donation Camps) will continue as usual.
Part-B Activities reflecting the goals and objectives of the institution: Providing better infrastructure support. The college Management took it as a challenge to construct a huge block consisting more than 25 rooms spread over three floors. In spite of financial constraints, sufficient progress is seen this year also and the block is almost complete. The records reveal the facts. They shows Rs.37.6 lakhs have been spent during the current year.
Providing better exposure to students through various programmes To-day lot of emphasis is laid on developing soft skills. The tremendous growth in the service sector has necessitated the development of soft skills like personality development, communication skill, aptitude development, etc. In the light of this a 22 week programme was conducted in the college for the benefit of students. The students opine that the programme has given them good exposure and they are sure that their performance in job market would be bettered.
Arranging campus interviews for job placement There has been a lull in job market this year. Yet some of the students have made it and succeeded in getting jobs in Bangalore. The opening of a huge Apparel park in the town with several hundred crore rupees of investment and over 50,000 job potentiality has given some hopes for students this year.
Ensuring the continuation of all the healthy practices The college besides holding orientation programme for the newly admitted students, encourages senior students to host welcome party to them, where a conducive atmosphere is created for the students to exchange ideas. It also paves way for healthy relationship among students. Similarly, the juniors give send-off party to the outgoing students. The seniors usually share their experiences with their juniors and also advice them to make best use of the faculty and facilities provided by the college. This kind of interaction surely results in motivation of the students. This year also mid-day meal facility was provided to the needy students. As usual the students were eager to participate in various events and competitions and won prizes.
Upgradation of computer labs Since the students have realized that they must become computer literates, since computer knowledge is tested in examinations, there has been an increase in the use of computer lab. Necessary steps have been taken to meet this increased demand.
Adding furniture in class rooms This year, not much additions were made, keeping in view the requirement level. However, some furniture was added to the staff room and the library.
Maintenance of cleanliness in college premises It is a matter of priority to maintain cleanliness in the college premises in order to ensure hygienic conditions. Adequate arrangements have been made to take care of this task.
Providing pure drinking water We have a bore well in the college premises, which is supplying water for various purposes. To make the water more pure and potable, a giant water purifier has been installed costing around Rs.75,000.
New academic programmes initiated Considering the increased need for higher education in the Management discipline to the taluk students, the college has applied for permission to start MBA course. Teams from the University and Government have already visited the college and given the green signal. Now we are looking forward the visit by AICTE team for the final go ahead signal.
Innovations in curricular design and transaction The University prescribes syllabus for various courses. It also suggests the number of teaching hours required to cover the topics. In the event of loss of classes owing to extraneous reasons, special classes are conducted on Sundays and holidays to make good the loss. Some teachers who complete their valuation work early, start taking classes even before the official date of commencement of semesters. We also forego local holidays if the need arises. This is the plan of action we adopt to ensure that the syllabus is covered in time.
Inter-disciplinary programmes Since we are practicing this to a feasible extent, we thought holding a seminar covering this subject would be of great help. In the light of this we have sought permission from UGC and are hoping to hold the seminar at the beginning of the next academic year. The theme of the seminar suggested is “Inter-Disciplinary Approach in Teaching Literature”.
Initiative to-wards FDP Prof. Ranga Swamy of Sociology Department has written many books, which have been found to be very useful to students. His style of writing is not only appreciated by students, but also teachers of his department from other colleges. This year also six of his books have been published. They are as follows: I Sociology: a) Kaigarika Samaja Shasthra-VI b) Samajika Shasanagalu mattu Samaja Kalyana-VI II Journalism: A) Samooha Samvahanakke Praveshike-I B) Pathrikodyamada Moola Tathvagalu-II C) Madhyama Shasanagalu mattu Bharathiya Samvidhana-III D) Moola Shravya – Drishya-IV (under print) He was also a resource person in the following: Seminar at Devenahalli Govt. EXAM RESULTS (2007-08)
Increase in the infrastructure facilities As planned last year, the Management increased the financial allocation to complete the construction of the new block. The records show that a whopping Rs.37.61 lakhs have been spent for the purpose. This indicates the commitment of the Management in their endeavor to provide better infrastructure facilities.
Placement services provided to students Our students always keep their options open. Some of them decide to prosecute their studies after graduation to acquire better employability. We are very glad that most of them succeed in their endeavors. To provide them an opportunity to know their soft skills, we are planning to invite specialists in the area, like Team Lease, to hold tests like aptitude test and the like and assess the performance of the students and also offer suggestions to improve in the fields, in which they are weak.
Healthy practices of the institution Class representative are elected for every class Special Orientation Programme for new entrant Formation of new Committees consisting of teachers in specific areas to identify the problems and offer suggestion to solve them All the National Festivals are observed both at the College and centrally organized programmes by the Government Conduct of personality development programme in association with NGOs like Part-C Details of the plans of the institution for the next year To provide access to inter net service to maximum number of students. To invite specialists to conduct classes imparting soft skills. To engage the services of ‘Team Lease’, to conduct aptitude for students, so that they get a chance to develop their employability.
Part-A (New) Plan of action: Plan of action chalked out by the IQAC in the beginning of the year to-wards Quality enhancement and the outcome by the end of the year. With the sanction obtained from Bangalore University the B.B.M course gets off to a start in this academic year with 34 students. It is hoped that with this a new beginning will be made in developing the Centre for Management Studies in the College. Now that the new block meant for Management Studies is nearing completion, the only formality to be completed is the visit of the AICTE Committee Members who are to give approval for starting the MBA Programme. The Hon .Secretary L.D.K.M.E.Society would be visiting NEW Delhi to complete the formalities. The overall expenditure for erection of the new building is estimated to be around 60 lakhs. Apart from this the focus will also be on revitalizing the M.Sc., (Mathematics) and M.Com., Courses which are already being run. Efforts will be made to get more and more students to join our Post Graduate Programme. The Campus Interviews for job placements may slightly affected by the lull in the job market. However our students who go in search of traditional jobs like Teachers Jobs and Governmental jobs may not find any difficulty. The process Computerization of the Library will proceed and hopefully, in an year or two, the job would be completed. The Mid Day Meal Scheme would be implemented as usual. But it has not been possible to create a corpus fund for the purpose. This will be given special attention this year. The NSS and NCC Programmes will continue as usual with at least one NCC Cadet likely to attend the Republic Parade in New Delhi. The Department of Kannada will be holding a State level UGC Sponsored Seminar in the month of September on the topic “ INTER DISCIPLINARY APPROACH IN THE OF LITERATURE’. Further additions to furniture's in class rooms are also to be made, though on a modest scale.
Part-B Activities reflecting the goals and objectives of the institution: Providing better infrastructure support. Completing the new block was the focus of the college Management during the current year. Completion of the building which has 24 spacious rooms spread over three floors, is a dream come true and the Management and the staff of the college feel proud of achieving this mammoth project. Classes are being held in the new building from this year. During the current year the total expenditure on this account is Rs.65,38,585. The only work pending is cosmetic look to be given to the façade of the edifice.
Providing better exposure to students through various programmes Awareness among students about the importance of development of soft skills like communication and leadership skills has been created. They are serious about it and putting efforts to gain such skills by attending the related programmes conducted by the college as well as by external agencies. It is yielding results, indicated by the increase in the incidence of the students finding job placements soon after they complete their degree courses.
Arranging campus interviews for job placement Even though there are hundreds of industrial organizations in the periphery of Dodballapur town, the job opportunities to students with general degree is limited. Naturally, they have to depend on concerns in Bangalore, which for obvious reasons encourage city students. However, this has not deterred the hopes of our students. Many, out of their employability qualities have secured jobs in Bangalore. In spite of our keen interest to hold campus interviews, only a few companies respond to this. We only hope things may change in future, when Dodballapur becomes part of Bangalore Metro. Ensuring the continuation of all the healthy practices. IStudents are given freedom to hold welcome and farewell parties, so that they get an opportunity to expose their talents and organizing abilities. We are trying to set up a ‘Corpus Fund’ to enable us to continue the unique practice of providing mid day meals to students. Our efforts are yet to give positive results. This has not resulted in a set back to the programme. We are continuing to provide the facility with the available funds from donations given by individuals. The students of our college take keen interest in participating in various events and competitions held locally and in other places. On many occasions they have won laurels.
Upgradation of computer labs We have bought as many as 15 new computer systems and steps are being taken to provide internet access to all the students in batches. The inclusion of one compulsory subject to all the students i.e., computer fundamentals has helped them to put special efforts in becoming computer literates. In this regard, they are using the computer lab facilities of the college as well as getting trained in other private computer institutions.
Adding furniture in class rooms We are glad to record, that we have fulfilled the requirement in total on this account. As much as Rs.2.90 lakhs were spent by the Management.
Maintenance of cleanliness in college Premises As a routine work, college sub-staff with the help of municipal workers on special occasions and NSS volunteers have taken care of cleaning the premises, watering the plants and maintenance of hygiene in the college.
New academic programmes initiated The university team and AICTE Committee members visited the college and were greatly impressed by the initiative taken by the staff and the Management in providing the infrastructures for commencing new PG courses like MBA and M.Com. They also appreciated our efforts in spite of the financial constraints we faced. The Secretary visited AICTE at Delhi to meet the Officials concerned over there. Finally, our efforts bore fruits and we got permission to start MBA course. We are sure, the new programme will help the rural students apart from the Bangalore students and students from neighboring taluks. Innovations in curricular design and transaction As said before, the college has no freedom in designing the curriculum, as our college is affiliated to Bangalore University and is bound by the syllabus prescribed by the university. However, allied topics are taken up for discussion, to ensure continuity of the subject matter. This exercise helps the students to have broader idea about the subjects and helps in future in case they prosecute their studies further. In the process additional classes are engaged to cover the syllabus in time. Inter-disciplinary programmes When lectures and seminars are organized by a particular department, students of other departments are cajoled to attend them and learn many things about other subjects. For example when kannada literature seminar was organized, the students response was over whelming and they got their doubts cleared by the experts who participated in the programme.
